Mary followed him as soon as he orgasmed, fingernails digging slightly into his chest. She cried out for him, moaning loudly as her body stiffened above his. She glanced down at him, watching his face in pleasure while she had hers. The orgasm rushed through her like a tidal wave, leaving her feeling boneless. She leaned over as it subsided, her hands flat on his chest for a moment before laying down next to him. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she tried to catch her breath.
His own dark gaze fixed on her features, the lines of her body, watching every little twitch and shift and committing it all to memory. He was smiling dazedly as they came down from their orgasms, and as she laid down next to him, he reached out to take hold of her hand, twining their fingers together.
Lifting their hands up, he kissed the back of hers, lips lingering as he opened his eyes to look at her, his own breath still coming up a little short. "I'll never tire of making love to you."
"Nor will I," she replied, still breathless. Mary settled against his chest, her head snuggled in the crook of his neck. "I'm sorry I acted foolishly today, Jim. Thank you for saving my life."
It occurred to her that she would very likely be dead if Jim hadn't jumped in after her. He'd risked his own life for her today and she would never forget that.
Jim shifted around so he could settle one arm underneath her head, one of his feet lifting up the covers, his free hand tugging them up the rest of the way. "Always. I'll always do everything to keep you safe, Mary."
Once that was because he'd promised to deliver her safely to Nassau— now it was because he couldn't stand to live without her, or to see her hurt.
