Jim knew his own opinions on this matter were mad for their time, but then most of his opinions were. No doubt he could easily be called insane for some of the things he believed in and stood for, but luckily his reputation seemed to be mostly built around the fact that he'd been a Navy captain turned pirate.
He was just glad to live among people who shared in his beliefs. Just like he was immensely happy that he'd gotten Mary to see things more like he did too. If nothing else, then at least she was free, of both body and mind. A sentiment in which most women didn't share.
