It's stupid, he knows it. He always knew that something like this could happen, they all did when they agreed to join the Avengers initiative. No mission came free of risk, and there was always the unspoken awareness that any of them could get hit, injured seriously or even killed - and yet, this came as a complete shock to Bruce. As if he'd never even thought it possible that it could happen.
